5 Ways Moms Can Experience New Life in Christ
Look for Hope. I could have missed our Wisteria blooms if I’d chosen not to look for them. Even though I didn’t expect them, I kept my eyes open, never truly giving up hope that they’d appear. As moms, we can hope for a deeper connection in our families, a breakthrough in our marriages or a renewed purpose for our life. Whatever it is that hasn’t yet bloomed, find hope to trust God for signs of life.
Find Beauty. Flower-filled trees, springtime fashion, fresh words on the pages of a book. . .beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. What do we need to open our eyes to see this year? What have we been too busy to notice? No matter how fast life seems to be flying by, stop and look for beauty within the mundane. Search until you find it.
Start Fresh. I love a new beginning. I suppose that’s why seasons get me so excited, each one the opportunity to start again and embrace what it has to offer. A coat of paint on the walls, a new fitness program, the beginning of a family tradition. . .what can we start fresh now that we’ve been reminded of his mercies that are new every morning? Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow is filled with hope. What can you begin anew today?
Cultivate Relationships. First with Jesus, our source of new life. Then with those he’s gifted us to walk with. Spring is the time to plant and feed, remove the weeds and water well. And so it is with our connections. . .our marriage, family, friendships. Nurture the ones you love, tend to relationships until they bloom.
Feed Your Soul. It’s easy for moms to focus all their tending and nurturing on others. But the promises of God are for us, too. Maybe it’s time to put your own needs above that of others. Maybe you need to cultivate the soil of your soul in order to experience growth this year. What can you do that acknowledges your deepest desires? Find one or two things that bring life to your dry bones and do them—without guilt, without apology. Allow yourself to feel the joy of feeding your soul.
He came that moms may have life, and have it to the full. God’s idea of “full” is not about our child’s extracurricular activities or science projects. It’s not about 4+ laundry baskets or overflowing shopping carts at the grocery store. Sure, the gift of motherhood includes the fullness of all those things (and many more). But these words spoken by Jesus in John chapter 10, appear in the midst of his interaction with the Pharisees. He delivered this promise to correct their false notions and set the record straight about religion versus a true, life-giving relationship with him. Our friendship with Jesus; our salvation in Christ, means we get to experience new life every single day. This is the good news that will carry us through our toughest seasons. This is the truth that will bloom in our lives, if we let it.
