Fall is here and I’m working on teaching my kids the value of helping around the house AND the importance of eating healthy? Here’s two easy, no-fail recipes that your family will love.
1 cup apple juice concentrate
1 tsp. cinnamon
Core and quarter apples (there’s no need to peel them) and put them in a crockpot along with the juice concentrate. Cover and cook on low for 12 hours (I like to put it on at night). Take apples out and blend. Return to pot and add cinnamon. Cook on low for one more hour. Can in jars or freeze. Makes about 7-8 1/2 pint jars.
Applesauce: Peel, quarter, and core as many apples as you want. Put in a pot with enough water to cover apples. Bring to a boil and boil about 15 minutes or until soft. Blend. Can or freeze. I like to pick a variety of apples to make both apple butter and applesauce. We’ve been in S. Africa for almost three months with no apple butter or applesauce. I can’t tell you how many times my kids have asked for both! Tradition has set in!
