- Praise God for the changing of seasons. Wouldn’t life be a bit boring without the seasons that God has created? My condolences if you live somewhere with no seasons, because they really are a blessing! Not only does each seasonal change add interest to daily life, it also is a beautiful way to observe all the facets of God’s power through nature. Even with the drab colors of our “spring”, it is exciting to feel that change in the air. It creates a feeling of expectancy as you wait for the first signs that Summer is coming, and each little change is a reminder of God’s transforming power.
- Praise God for new life. Spring is the time of new life. New shoots of grass break through the hard ground, new buds form on the trees, new animal babies are born. Spring is the time when the world slowly shows signs of life again after a long winter. Before you know it the small changes add up and the world is transformed. The change of Spring is a beautiful picture of what Jesus does in our hearts when we repent of our sins and give our lives to Him. He changes us until we are no longer spiritually dead, but alive and beautiful and flourishing in Him. He gives us new life and transforms us when we ask Him to forgive our sins, and Spring reflects that.
- Praise God for His resurrection. Despite my initial reaction to dislike “Spring,” I can’t help but enjoy that it is the time of our Lord’s resurrection! For me, having our Resurrection Day fall yearly in the Spring is a good reminder of our God’s power and victory over death. The world is waking up after the “death” of winter, and just as God transforms the seasons and brings new life in nature, He overcame death by coming back to life! The weather may not always be enjoyable, but I love Spring for being such a poignant reminder that our Savior is alive! I have started to recognize that there are many good things about the Springtime, things we can thank God for, and I want to point those things out to my kids so they don’t inherit my hesitancy about this time of year. A really sweet book to help my kids appreciate Spring is One Spring Lamb. This counting book lists all kinds of wonderful things to love about this season, and it’s a great starting point to talk about the three points I listed above! I am looking forward to reading it as a family this year and teaching my kids about our Savior. God tells us in His word that His eternal attributes can be understood by the things that He has made. Each season, everything He has created, ultimately exists to bring Him glory. It is easy to see His glory in nature during the vibrancy of summer, the brilliance of fall, and the beauty of winter landscapes. But even if Spring is not quite as obviously beautiful at times, it is Spring that gives the most meaningful reminders of what Jesus did for us by dying in our place on the cross and rising again. It is Spring that gives the most beautiful picture of what Jesus can do for us when we turn from our sin and let Him work in us. Spring reflects His eternal attributes in a way that other seasons can’t. So despite the mud, I love Spring for that.
