Christmas season is here and my head is filled with ideas. It’s a wonder my mind doesn’t explode from Christmas idea overload.
Between Pinterest, blogs, and magazines, I find a lot of activities to fill up the Advent calendar for my kids. And there are lots of options to choose from. I love every part of this Christmas inspiration bonanza and I would do Christmas crafts and activities year-round if I wouldn’t end up with the label of the “Crazy Christmas Lady!”
Although the crafts and songs and baking are lots of fun, there is one thing I look forward to every year above everything else. And I think, if you can only choose ONE thing to do as a family for Christmas this year, this should be it.
Every Christmas Eve, we read the Christmas Story as a family.
No matter where we are. No matter how late we may settle down. Even if we JUST heard it at a Christmas Eve service. Nothing fancy, just straight from the book of Luke. The Hubby started this tradition when our oldest was just a baby. I remember the tears filling my eyes as he sat with our eight-month-old in his lap and shared the account of the birth of Jesus for the first time. A moment I will never forget. Those same tears fill my eyes every year as we read together of God’s greatest gift – the gift of love come down at Christmas.
